We've Started To Take A Better Look At The Economic Impact of Clubs and Second Home Communities.
Inaugural Golf and Second Home Symposium held on November 9, 2011 attended by over 200 business leaders across multiple sectors in the Coachella Valley got the ball rolling, but the real work has just begun.
Few, if any clubs or second home communities, can rest on past performances or traditions. For many, sustainability is at risk.
Club Mark Corporation presented this symposium with the intention of bringing the community together to better understand how the decrease in lifestyle purchases of club memberships and second homes are not only adversely impacting the housing crisis, but the entire economy of the Coachella Valley.
The industry experts featured in this symposium went to the heart of assessing the risks and market position, demonstrated the relevance to our community and our national economy, and has begun to redevelop synergies within the community, and provided a valuable backdrop for the sustainability of clubs and second home communities.
With over 12,000 golf memberships for sale in the Coachella Valley and several years of real estate inventory for sale, it is imperative we start looking for solutions as a community. The annual spending of seasonal home owners greatly impacts retail businesses, restaurants, medical facilities, contractors and other service providers significantly affecting the overall economic prosperity of this region. If this segment of the community is not thriving, it can also negatively impact the tourism experience which is this valley’s number one revenue generator.
Attendees from different sectors of the community included: club general managers, HOA boards, real estate professionals, business owners, chamber members, tourism industry leaders, key city staff members, elected officials and local media.
